My Opinion of Valentine’s Day-11/2/18
Hey guys I am back with another blog and as Valentine’s Day is just around the corner I thought I’d voice my opinion of it in a blog. I hope you all enjoy this opinion and I hope you also share yours in the comments below.

My opinion may come as a surprise to many as I’ve been in a relationship for 13 months. The assumption people make is that everyone in a relationship loves Valentine’s Day. However, for me this is simply not true. I see it as another day that shops use to take money from people who fall into the hype around it.
The main thing I find wrong about it is that you should be spoiling your partner every single day of the year and not just on a specific day. I also believe that if your relationship takes a shed load of gifts and one day of the year to seem strong then it probably isn’t.
In my relationship with Sophie we are super super close but when it comes to spoiling each other we do this with the things that cost no money at all and are far more valuable to a relationship.
In a relationship time, care, love, affection, effort, trust and honesty are the things you need and you can’t put a price on any of these. I had never had a relationship with all these being present consistently until Sophie and that’s credit to how good she is. I’ve never been happier and it’s our beliefs on things like Valentine’s Day that help us as we give each other everything we need without spending a penny.
We do buy gifts for each other here and there and we will give each other stuff on Valentine’s Day but neither of us feel like we must do that. With Social media I think that if your relationship is working great you will feel comfortable enough to post about it on any day of the year and not just Valentine’s Day either.
I hate seeing people feel pressurised to post just because of the day it is as you should be able to not worry about the materialistic side of that day. Store greed is ultimately why there is so much available to buy for that day and the disturbing thing is that each year the stuff is available to buy even earlier. That’s just wrong on so many levels.
Anyway guys this has been my opinion of Valentine’s Day and as you can probably tell I absolutely despise it. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this blog and I thank you for your time and support.
In the comments feel free to express your opinion of Valentine’s Day and if you are in a relationship feel free to share your plans with your partner for that day as well as what you find best about your relationship.
Thank you for reading.

  1. Lol I understand completely. Money can’t buy love. Even though it’s nice to receive gifts from time to time from my husband and vice versa. I just don’t dwell on it though. I love him broke or rich.

  2. I’ve not received or bought a Valentine’s gift in almost 10 years… Lol! I have been with the same man for 15 years now and honestly, I think whether I get a gift or now… I know he’s in for the long run. It comes a time in a relationship when the only gift you want most is a snuggle in front of a Netflix series 🙂

  3. I totally understand where you’re coming from! Me and my boyfriend do give a gift to each other on Valentines Day but we never usually spend more than £20 on each other as we don’t feel the need to.
We do like to go out for a meal though as I think it’s just another day of the year we both get to treat ourselves 🙂

  4. Totally agree with you! I’ve never been a fan of Valentine’s Day. I do celebrate it, but I don’t give in to buying cards, flowers, chocolates, etc. I always make a homemade meal for my boyfriend and I. That way I’m not giving in to the greed of Hallmark and other big brands that make big bucks off of people for this specific “holiday”. Your relationship sounds very similar to mine in the aspect that we spoil each other with love and affection all year long rather than material possessions. Great post!

  5. I agree with your thoughts friends. It has become just another day to line the pockets of business owners in our capitalistic world….my wife’s birthday is ON Valentine’s Day so we celebrate her birthday instead of Valentine’s .

  6. I completely agree with your opinion of Valentine’s Day. Matt and I have been together for nearly 4 years and we never make a fuss about presents or posting about how much we love one another on social media. Relationships are special every single day, and we’d rather do something nice for each other when it really counts – not just because of a Hallmark Holiday.

  7. I couldn’t agree more with you Paul! Valentines day is just a ploy to create revenue for shops! I believe that Valentines day is a lovely way to show someone you love them, but this should also be done every other day of the year. I think that it’s more of a competition on who can get their significant other a ‘better’ present and to show off on social media! My partner and I also have the same thoughts towards it so we don’t ‘celebrate’ it either! I just made him a little cake instead of spending so much money on pointless ‘Valentine’s’ chocolates and such!
    Love, Cally x

  8. Wow! You sound like my boyfriend. He doesn’t like celebrating Valentine’s Day forreal and now I completely get it this year. He just wants to spend time and doesn’t believe that one specific day should be tailored to that because we do it everyday! I really love this post❤️❤️❤️ So honest and so true.

  9. I have to agree with everything you said, but I do love chocolate! My husband and I have been married for 29 years, for us, it’s just another day. This year we did meet for lunch. Some years my husband will write me a letter telling me how great I ‘am 😉 I treasure those letters more than a store bought card. It’s every day that we treasure each other and what you have together.
